I couldn’t agree with the Prius and Whole Foods bit more. Anyone that says something to me beginning with “You should…”, I have already begun heading the other direction before I allow my native inclination to reply with a snappy retort.

“You should” pat yourself on the back for being smart and having some self control. The snappy retort is my favorite inclination and it’s always there. Waiting.

part of picking your battles is knowing when to fire back the snappy retort and when to just walk away. I have found over the years you can just about say anything to anyone if you have a big grin on the pie-hole. I once had a Chinese girlfriend who had a decent command of the English language but not so with colloquialisms. I said she was the “bane of my existence” (and she really was), with a big smile on my face and she thanked me. Years later, I said it quietly to another girlfriend, who asked me to repeat what I had just said. Not wanting to get my ass kicked, I said, “babe of my existence”. Nothing gets by her.

I admit it. I have not read Twilight. Or Harry Potter. I just can’t do it.

Awesome book review. I love the turn in the chair to reveal the Twilight t-shirt. I sincerely hope you wear that out in public.

Good. Stay pure. Stay strong. Stay away from Edward.

Kelly, you aren’t missing anything. Harry Potter is not literature, and don’t even get me started on Twilight.

Today I stumbled upon your awesome blog (I’m not flattering). After reading your post on Darren’s blog, I went on reading your whole blog. I’m a fan of literature, too. I read some great classics on Project Guttenberg. My native tongue isn’t English so it takes a longer time for me to finish chewing the whole works.
You have ‘Africa’ tag. Why don’t you try to review Asian literary works? I’m Asian and I find some Asian literary works are equally outstanding. Or is it hard for you to find the English version of them?

@akhlis. Great suggestion. I’ve just been adding tags as I go. I’ve read a lot of Asian literature, including the heavy stuff like Ramayana. I’ll review something soon.

Sorry, I missed your ‘Middle East’ tag. But I guess it’s worth trying to review some other Asian books/ works, like Indian’s colossal epic Mahabaratha, Ramayana, etc.
I was wondering what your definition of a worth reading literary work is…
Do you belong to a group of folks saying that popular romance novels, chic-lit (literature for ‘chicks’?), etc are literary works?

Akhlis, I believe anything that you enjoy is worth reading. Literature is a word that I don’t get too concerned about. You might enjoy this poll that people here on the blog answered, called “Is it better to read something “bad” or nothing?”

Josh:
Yours is an excellent site, with creative visualizations, and envious resources.
Came here googling for the bestsellers: “THE BOOK OF AWESOME.”
And, then got lost (aka got drowned) in so many things you have so skillfully aggregated, including the comments, Store, Little Categories… and so on.
My ten blogs can’t compete with your One.
However, missed to see a ‘title index’ in your Book Review section (categories or subject headings are not sufficient). And, probably you need to place the ‘search within button’ in a better eye catching place / color.
Being a librarian, I have come to believe that search needs browse, to go hand-in-hand. In other words right side brain needs search (or imagination, using the categories of your site visitor: akhlis), the left side needs browse (or visuals, aka figures: akhlis), too.

More on search and browse, and if there is a third dimension, later. Plus, why search engines now hide the subject directory, as in google, and why yahoo now charges to get a site added in its subject listing; and Dmoz almost a stagnant archive of ancient links.
Best of luck.
