I love grip strength and I got started in it the way most grip athletes do–with grippers. My first serious foray into crush strength was with the Ironmind Captains of Crush grippers. I started with a #1 and was able to close it right out of the box. Since then I have also picked up a Vulcan Gripper from David Horne’s World of Grip, which takes the place of many other grippers.
But just in case you have some vendetta against Ironmind or Mr. Horne, and you want to invest in some great grippers, I’m going to point you to a couple of other resources. I have not used either of these, but Adam Glass has told me a lot about them. Not necessarily with high praise, but he actually talks about them each a bit in his Industrial Strength Grip DVD as well, so you might want to check that out if you’re interested in going into some more varied areas of grip and forearm training.
Warren Tetting Beef Builders
Sold through Weightlifter’s Warehouse. The range on the poundages is pretty big. Lots of options here.
Ivanko Super Grippers
This is a weird-looking doo dad also sold by the Tetting Warehouse. Similar to the Vulcan gripper, this purports to be a one-size-fits-all last-gripper-you’ll-ever-buy hand gripper. I’m going to pick one up just to try it out, but as of now I cannot personally vouch for it.
That’s it for now. As I find more options I’ll come back and post them on this page, will will eventually serve as my gripper HQ on World’s Strongest Librarian.
Good times! Grip is a lot of fun.
