Today (December 1) is my 33rd birthday and I am spending it driving to a funeral, so I won’t be around to respond to comments until later this evening. It’s not someone close to me, so no condolences necessary. It seems natural in a way to be thinking about someone’s passing on the same day when, over three decades ago, my parents were celebrating my first squalls and yelps in this world. One day they too will be gone. This too shall pass, even when “this” refers to us. But today is a good day and I want to celebrate. And you can help.
The older I get, the harder it gets for me to come up with meaningful birthday present ideas when 1) I have everything I need; 2) the toys I want are getting too expensive!
But today I actually do have a couple of suggestions for anyone who enjoys the blog and would like to get something for me. Here they are, in order of preference.
1. Write a guest post for me. I am especially interested in book reviews although anything that you’d like to write about is probably welcome. My fantasy is that one day this site will be where people turn for book reviews, rather than Amazon. I know, it’s a long shot, and I can’t do it by myself, but I’m not interested in dreaming small. I want this site to be as big as possible, and that’s going to take a community effort. If you’d like to write a book review, either for my birthday or just because, consider this an open invitation.
If you register as a user, you’ll be able to compose posts directly in a WordPress dashboard and then submit them to me for review with the push of a button, versus cumbersome email exchanges. You can also include a link to your blog or website in the author profile. I won’t link to any thin sites that are obviously just made for Adsense and/or affiliate programs, so please keep that in mind if any of you readers are SEO wizards with big ideas. I know the difference.
2. Signed copies of The Knot
I’ve got five or six left in my current batch of The Knot. Signed copies are $30. That link will take you to the other buying options if you’re interested, and will also give you the breakdown of how the book came to be, if you’re just arriving here. If you’d like one, please contact me and include signed copy of The Knot in the subject.
Thanks for everything. It’s been another great year. Hopefully many more are coming to us both!
