Poll: What’s Your Song?

by Josh Hanagarne on July 23, 2010

I like movies where characters have theme songs associated with them. I’ve decided that when I walk around a corner into your line of sight, this is the song you should here. This is pretty much what it’s like when I’m around anyways. Ask anyone:

This gets my vote for the first heavy metal song, by the way.

How about you? What should I be hearing when you draw near? Have fun with this.

Josh

Depends on my mood. A lot of the time I have to write my own song.

When I’m down, or chill, it’s ‘Round Here’ by the Counting Crows, because I have trouble acting normal when I’m nervous.

When I get my hackles up, ‘Psalms 40:2′ by the Mountain Goats. Challenging something passionately even when you revere it, feeling the frailty in yourself and in everything else.

Darth Vader’s music in The Empire Strikes Back…I would totally wear this shirt: http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/interactive/a5bf/

This reminds me of the Family Guy episode where he get’s his own theme music. I looked for it on You Tube but couldn’t find a good link.

For me it would be something mellow, like Pink Moon by Nick Drake or Somewhere over the Rainbow by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole.

I’d like to choose something badass, like an Ennio Morricone theme song, or heavier like Tool, but I think these are probably pretty accurate:

Me w. caffeine (Kodo – Yoshida Brothers): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ron17xFNBf0

Me without caffeine: (Mah Na Mah Na – Muppets): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50i5egBSUxs

This is gonna be a strange one. Anything by Miklos Rosa will work, but I believe the theme song from El Cid with all its passion and drama would show the inside of me best. Is anyone out there old enough and weird enough to remember this?

I’m partial George Torogoods’ “If You Don’t Start Drinkin’[ I'm Gonna Leave].

Hey Josh, how’s it goin’?

I can see you as this song — very fitting my friend.
I think I might be Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”. Well, either that or Johnny Cash’s “Fulsom Prison Blues”.

Addams family theme song would fit me, I’m that weird: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFD7KGBUtKI&feature=related

Jackie Chan’s theme song of his movie called Thunderbolt gets a green light, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk8i8OKYjkQ&feature=player_embedded#!

If video game music counts, the full theme song of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon would fit me very well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1Hv3rrakW0&feature=related

Finally, there’s this song without lyrics which has a gladiatoresque (does such a word exist?) feel to it, thus making it suitable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EhDVnQeXuQ&feature=related

I believe we have several songs, hard to choose from so many! :D

OK, now that I’m more awake I can think of a few specifics:

Adam Ant, “Goody Two-Shoes”
They Might Be Giants, “Dead” (in my 20s, anyway)
Counting Crows, “Hangin’ Around”
Aimee Mann, “Wise Up”
Jack Johnson, “Flake,” “Taylor”

… and …

(Yep, shameless plug.)

Stronger by Kanye West. I kick ass doing this at karaoke and it always gets me energised :)

With me it’s a toss-up between The Runaways “Cherry Bomb” and Social Distortion’s “She’s a Knockout.” I think every woman should have “She’s a Knockout” play every time she walks into a room or down the street! :)

I sing *all* the time. Any tone or word can trigger a song for me. I find out I’m depressed when I hear myself singing “Sometimes I feel like a motherless child” or “I’m just a poor wayfarin’ stranger.” This week I was baffled to find myself singing “At the Zoo”–where in heck did that come from? The fact that I’m currently hosting 4 teenagers (two of them mine) might have inspired it. Who knows?

Almost anything by Django Reinhardt — the early stuff with Stephane Grapell on violin. “Honeysuckle Rose” is my favorite. If you’ve never listened to Django, YouTube him. You’re in for a treat.

Also, the blues. Buddy Guy just feel sometimes like drinkin’ gasoline, John Lee Hooker just can’t find no job. As they said on the Simpsons, Blues ain’t about making yourself feel better, it’s about making other people feel bad.

Not my favorite blues song, but favorite line ever. Koko Taylor, can’t recall the name of the song: “Every time I shimmy, some skinny woman lost her home.”

Reminds me of a scene from “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka” in which one of the characters says every hero needs a theme song (Shaft)…and has a band follow him around. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095348/

I do this occasionally, my wife laughs but doesn’t have me committed. I play a song off my phone…sometimes the old intro to HBO movies.
