Another First: World’s Strongest Librarian – The Sermon

John and some unfortunate bricks

While I was in Minneapolis at Adam Glass’s strength workshop, I met a couple of men that I’ve been fans of for a long time. John Bruney and Drew Kuespert from Swager Strength Equipment. John holds a couple of odd world records, like pulling a mile of heavy rope over his shoulder and pulling semis.

I own one of their thick bars, which is my favorite piece of equipment in the entire world.

They demoed a bunch of very cool equipment and were basically just a lot of fun to be around.

But to the point today: John is a pastor. Even from the equipment demo, I could tell he was a very charismatic speaker and knew that his preaching would be just as big and energetic as he was.

Well, yesterday John sent me a link to a sermon which was delivered this week to a congregation in Indiana. The subject? Well, I’m not sure how the sermon ended, because they only sent me an excerpt, but it began with a story about World’s Strongest Librarian.

To my knowledge, this is the first time my odd little blog has been the centerpiece of a worship service. I was moved, delighted, and a little bashful, but I’m still laughing about it.

You can listen to it here: I only take up the first 90 seconds or so.

John, if you’re reading this, I can’t thank you enough. You’re a good man and your people are better off with  you in their lives.

Josh

I think sermon mentions trump backlinks don’t they?

It’s got to count for something, doesn’t it? How do we get Google Analytics to start tracking it?

Isn’t a sermon mention sort of like a back link straight to the big guy?

Hey Josh! Wow. How cooool is that? As I listened to the sermon all I could picture was you, kettlebell in hand, saying in your best Elwood Blues, aka, Dan Akroyd voice, “I’m on a mission from Gawd.” Good stuff, Josh! Congrats!!!!

    Josh,

Jon goes on to tell more of your story later in the sermon. He talks about your post concerning the Grip N Rip struggles that you overcame…it was quite moving and showed us just how much we take for granted. We appreciate your kind words, but it’s your spirit that gives us a big boost to drive on.

    God Bless You!
