I like book reviews. And lists.
But I also like the idea of challenges, of many varieties. How about also guest columns?

Use the newsletter to issue challenges, like to read thought provoking books, hidden history (things you didn't learn in the history lessons in school), ...
Announce in advance initiatives like Banned Books week.
Allow a form of feedback on the challenges and insert them in the next newsletter or in a blog-post.
PS: Don't issue reading challenges on a weekly basis, I have my own reading list.

I think I like what every one else is saying as well. I think you share some great personal stories here. Maybe more "how to" type material could be incorporated into the newsletter.

Hi Josh,
I second Robby. I'd love to hear if there is something else going on in your life that doesn't quite fit into the topics on WSL. I also love newsletters that have a specific topic of each edition, and all of the information in the newsletter relates to that one topic. That way it becomes a little playbook for that topic of interest.

Maybe make it something more personal where you share certain ideas or suggestions that you wouldn't through this blog. In my newsletter, I tend to share my thoughts that are off topic from my what my blog is about. It creates a more personal element between my readers and me. I'm sure there are better ideas out there, but that approach seems to work for me. Maybe give it a try if you want.
