World’s Strongest Librarian Wins Social Media Award

by Josh Hanagarne on November 7, 2009

Hey everyone.  I just got back from the Utah Social Media Club Awards.  I won an award for Best Blog and have a plaque to prove it.  There were some very cool people there who have done some pretty amazing things in this medium.  I was honored to be there.

worldsstrongestlibrarian

I floundered through my speech but managed to work in a swear word that I didn’t plan on.  All’s well that ends well.

Thanks to all of you who voted!

More importantly, now that I have this fancy plaque, I need to hire a writhing harem to come polish it.  Who’s in? (I’m trying to prove that Janette doesn’t read my blog).

Josh

Hi Josh,
I have to say that your acceptance speech was fablulous! You did a great job and I admire your pluck for standing up there and accepting that award.
I was also very intrigued by your unique shoes.
I am looking forward to getting to know you better via your blog. Pete has read your blog and he said I will love it!
Nice job tonight!

Congratulations, Josh, on a very well-deserved award. I believe I voted for you. I do windows, but I don’t do plaques….sorry.

Anyway, I’m really proud of you!! Keep it going…

Hey Josh,
Sorry, but I assume there is a link for me to watch your acceptance speech. Could you email it?

Because of you, already kids are saying, “When I grow up, I want to be a librarian!”

Well done, son!

Gordie, Janette forgot to record it. I think she would tell you she was caught up in the moment but I think we were both just caught up in a cheesecake. There may be one out there soon on the USMA website. I’ll let you know.

Josh,
It was such a pleasure to meet you last night and then witness you receiving the award for your blog. Your acceptance speech was very inspiring, and your story is sure to gain acclaim. I look forward to following your success and staying in touch.

Tracy, it was great to meet you as well. I tried to send you an email this morning and it got returned. Have you had any problems receiving messages?

Thanks!

Hey Josh,
Wow, that’s great! Congratulations!!! Awesome!

I remember you begging all us to vote, practically getting down on your knees. Well, you convinced me, anyway. Now when are the checks to us going out?? (lol)

As for polishing your fancy plaque, you should probably make an appointment with your dental hygienist. I don’t think I’d trust a writhing harem with my teeth.

Josh Hanagarne November 7, 2009 at 11:15 am

Oh, well crafted. Is that how you remember it? Down on my knees? I don’t even have any teeth, by the way. What you see in my videos is CGI dentures.

Ha! Totally joking, stud-muffin. Yeah, I was chomping at the bit to throw in my vote of support. Josh, you are an inspiring, amazing man who has made a difference for so many people – me included.
I’m thrilled to see you were recognized for all the goodness you bring to this world.
(P.S. What are CGI dentures? I can rarely discern when you’re pulling my leg…)

Shane, thank you. Next year I’ll be nominating you! You’ll have to move to Utah to win, of course:)

Roxy, I would give “hit of the night” to the cheesecake I ate, but thank you very much. It was an honor to be considered and I was a little freaked out–I’ve never won anything:) But there were so many impressive people and great accomplishments being talked about that I hope some of it rubbed off on me.

Congratulations, Josh. And much deserved award, and to a wonderful member of the blogging community! You have been an inspiration, motivation, and friend to many, many people, and the award is the public recognition of that.

Jessica Marie November 7, 2009 at 2:46 pm

That is wonderful; congratulations. Do you have a written version of your speech that could be posted? I will come and shine the plaque but refuse to wear the harem outfit. :)

Trish Scott November 7, 2009 at 2:50 pm

You let a swear word slip out in UT? In PUBLIC? Phew. Did the bolt of lightening hurt?

Reply

Josh Hanagarne November 7, 2009 at 2:52 pm

@Trish, it was a mild one:) “What the hell”

@Jessica: I think there will probably be a video out there somewhere. We’ll see.

@Mary Jo: Thanks Mary. I hope that whatever has been working will keep working.

Were you wearing high heels in that picture. Or is everyone else short in Utah? :-)

Reply

Josh Hanagarne November 7, 2009 at 11:49 pm

I’m about 5’2″, so yes, everyone here is REALLY short.

Congrats on winning this well-deserved award! I have enjoyed reading your blog for a while and look forward to everything that’s ahead on WSL.

Kathy Casey November 8, 2009 at 2:08 pm

Hi Josh,
So glad to hear of your well deserved award.

A little disappointing that it’s not a very tall and goofy naked gold man statue that you could do curls with….but what the hell!

Who needs a harem? When you could just call on the old skating rink girlfriend to come and polish it for you. I’m sure she would jump right on that!

Congrats! And – keep up the good work.

Reply

Josh Hanagarne November 8, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Kathy, that made me shiver. Thank you for everything except that memory.

Reply

Janette H November 8, 2009 at 4:07 pm

Okay, to repeat, I DO read Josh’s blog. And if there’s going to be a writhing harem doing the dusting, it’s only okay if they will dust the rest of the house, too.

And yes, I did forget to use the flip camera to record the speech. I was in a gingerbread house marathon/too many pieces of dessert mega coma and was not responsible for my actions. Sorry, again, Josh.

It was a grand night out for the two of us. The 21-month-old at home managed to throw up on the babysitter, so maybe I avoided some projectile vomiting for the first time. It was totally worth the $20 fee.

And I have to agree with everyone, Josh is pretty special.

Hey Josh,

World’s Strongest Librarian is now officially an award-winning website :)

Congratulations Josh. What an achievement. I’m sure this encouraging event just motivates you to be even more remarkable and write even awesome-er articles.

I wish I was there to see your acceptance speech. Any video of it per chance?

All the best,
Oleg

Josh Hanagarne November 8, 2009 at 9:22 pm

Thanks Oleg. I’ll just keep doing what I always do, whatever that is. Janette forgot to turn on our video camera. I’ll ask around and see if anyone happened to film it.

Amy Nisbet November 8, 2009 at 10:32 pm

date night…..no projectile vomiting….TOTALLY worth the $20 bucks. Congrats Josh! So very thrilled for your success!

Reply

Josh Hanagarne November 8, 2009 at 11:01 pm

Amy, it cost more than that.

Heather November 9, 2009 at 10:13 am

Congrats, Josh! You should get a bunch of little old ladies to polish your plaque! Get some fitness models to do it! Tee-hee! That’s great! Congrats, too, on working in the swear word.

Shane, it was great to meet you too. Given your non-gregarious demeanor at dinner, it tickled me to no end to see you give two speeches:) Congratulations on your big win and that fancy rose!

Josh – We do have video of your acceptance speech. It’ll take some time for it to get edited and published, but we will publish it, most likely on the USMA YouTube channel (utahsma). Congratulations again. Your award is well deserved. I would have liked to see you next to the @sltrib award recipient – there must be at least a 2.5 foot difference there.

Josh Hanagarne November 9, 2009 at 9:54 pm

Thanks Pete! Good to know. I never realize how tall I am until I see myself next to other people. I used to date a girl who was 4’9″
