Worst Christmas Song Part Five

Hey all, it’s that time of year again. Each December on the blog I’ve taken nominations for the worst Christmas song you think of. It can be old, new, pop, traditional, whatever. It just has to set your teeth on edge.

I say this as someone who loves a lot of Christmas music. I could listen to the melodies for Silent Night and Greensleeves every day for the rest of my life with a big smile on my face.

Once again this year, I’m despairing. The Cat Carol is still the worst Christmas song of all time for me.

The Little Drummer Boy is the most droney and monotonous.

The Christmas Shoes is probably still the sappiest.

I want to scream when the kids start yowling at the end of Happy Xmas (War Is Over).

The opening of Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time, well, we shan’t speak of it.

And that Chipmunks song? Shiver.

But The Cat Carol is still the worst for this librarian.

Vote now! What’s got you up in arms?

I had never before heard The Cat Carol. I could have gone the rest of my life without hearing it. Thanks so much

And Merry Christmas to you, too!

LOL. I know! But I had to hear it, so you have to hear it as well.

Going to Disney World at Christmas time ruined a lot of Christmas songs for our family. They seemed to play the same ones every second song. And not the best versions. I dislike Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer. As much as I love cats, I’m not going to listen to Cat Carol to see if it wins.

Comes on, it’s about a very selfless cat! Listen!

Okay, it’s horrible. Still got teary though. What does that say about me?

It says you’re a fine person and we could all learn a lot from you. You give me hope, never change!

I’d never heard that until now. Josh, you have a lot to answer for!

Gee, thanks Josh. I never heard this one before. It’s wrong on so many levels – the Santa/God confusion, the lyrics totally wrong for the music, the inappropriateness for children. I certainly wouldn’t want to meet the creepy woman who sang it.

I still think the barking dogs doing Jingle Bells is the worst.

I’m way late with this but can’t resist responding. Do horrific renditions of nice songs count? If so, listen to Placido Domingo’s operatic mangling of “White Christmas.”
