Tourette’s Update, Second Highland Games, Random Thoughts

Hey gang, I’ll be away for a few days.  The Highland Games in Spokane are calling out to me with lips that drip with haggis.

But I wanted to leave you with a few random tidbits to keep you warm at night.

Someone just wrote to me and asked for a Tourette’s update.  In short: it’s about as bad as it’s ever been, but oh well.  I’ve got too much to do to fuss about it.

Highland Games #2: I’ll be competing in Spokane this Saturday.  Training has been consistent but less than ideal.  I need to get with a throwing coach and pick up some small pointers.  I’m making improvements on my own, but it’s resulting in more elbow stress than makes sense to me, and I’m sure that someone could take a look at my biomechanics and straighten it out without too much trouble.

Vietnam: books about the Vietnam War aren’t short.  In fact, I’ve read two book in the last two weeks and between them it came to more than 1400 pages!  I learned a lot, but it was a slog.  The Best and the Brightest and A Bright Shining Lie: Highly recommended for history buffs or armchair generals.

Internet tough guys: there are too many of them.  I’m not a tough guy, nor do I play one on the internet, but there’s no shortage of people who see themselves as a mixture of Bane, Rocky, Moby Dick, Van Damme, and Dalton from Roadhouse. Give them an Internet connection and it’s on!

Music: I’ve been listening to Amanda Palmer again.  Amanda, I missed you.

Olympics: I love them.  This made me laugh.

Library Events: Adam Glass is coming out to the Salt Lake City Library to speak with me in October.  It is going to be quite a night.

My book: Still revising.  Work on the cover has started . Can’t wait to see what comes out of it.  I’ll be really ready to be done with the writing by November 1.  I’m going to be ready to start work on something new, although the publicity obligations will be consuming for a while.

Twilight: Still haven’t come around.

Have a good weekend, everyone.  See you next week.

    Hey Josh,

Glad to hear about the progress you are making with the HG throwing. Have you checked out the NASGA website. http://www.nasgaweb.com/main.asp

Lots of tips, and if you posted a video of your technique, you will get great unbiased feedback. Even from guys like Ryan Vierra, and current champions. Just a thought.

    All the best,

    -Fred-

I have. There’s a lot of great discussion in there. I haven’t been brave enough to submit a video yet!

I wish I could write for The Onion.

Love the Onion piece! I also appreciate your statement that while the Tourette’s is as bad as it’s ever been, but you’re too busy to be bothered. Life goes on, with the disability or not.

I love the “Internet tough guys” statement. So true! It seems to me that people’s internal filter disappears when they are in front of a computer. Or maybe it’s just the sites I visit.

Huh? You got something to say? Tough guy?
