How Many of You are Writing a Book?

Hey everyone, a question for you today:

How many of you are writing a book, want to write a book, or are seriously planning on writing one?

If you’re in progress on one, have there been any surprises? Anything harder than you’d expected? Easier?

If you ever started writing and then stopped, why? Will you go back to it?

Feel free to answer any, all, or none of these questions.

Happy Friday.

Would love to write one but just can’t find the time to devote to it. Any suggestions?

Do you have five minutes each day when you could write?

I am, have, and will. It’s slow and steady, but it is on its way. I want to write a million books like Joyce Carol Oates (in quantity, not content).

I’m still editing my book I wrote during National Novel Writing Month 5 years ago.

I also have my script from ScriptFrenzy last April to edit.

And of course, I’m planning my November novel for the next NaNoWriMo.

And I just self published another book called Brains for the Zombie Soul (a parody of Chicken Soup for the Soul) that I’m working on a little marketing on.

As you can tell, I’m a big fan of the novel-in-a-month format. That way I don’t have to take time out the rest of the year, I can just dedicate one month to it, so I can’t use the “don’t have time” excuse anymore.

I’m trying to write a comic. Have a couple of scripts, but am looking for an artist to collaborate with.

I wrote a short novel a couple years ago that is sitting in a drawer. Maybe it needs another round of editing, maybe I need to show it to some folks, in either case it’s not going anywhere.

For me the hardest part of almost all creative projects is liking something long enough to make a good final project. I wish I could finish more of the things I started and I think a lot of that has to do with not wimping out on myself and bringing it out of the dark and into public consumption.

I have a couple of books that I need to finish putting together, one a collection of material I already have and another an update to an existing book, both about running (non-fiction). I’ve also got another “Runner’s Almanac” style book to put together, but that one will only involve about 1-2 pages of actual content I need to write; the rest is just formatting data into a useful and pleasing form.

The main reason I haven’t gotten to them is because pretty soon I’ll be a dad and my wife has been on bed rest so I’ve used that as an excuse to be lazy (read: doing lots of things that aren’t income driving so that the house would be ready for the baby!) Well, later today or tomorrow it will all be worth it. 🙂

I am writing a book. I should say “we” are writing because my husband and I are working on a memoir tentatively called “Educating Amigo: Asperger’s, Blindness, and Alphabet Soup.” It leads the reader through our experiences raising and educating a disabled child and learning our way through the lingo that defines special education.
We’re ready to start shopping out the proposal. Any agents interested?

    • Josh Hanagarne May 26, 2012, 9:41 am

Daisy, have you looked at a directory of agents to see who represents the subjects you’ll be writing about?

    • Pauline May 26, 2012, 12:05 pm

      Good title, Daisy.

Yes, actually I am writing a book, not fast… My muse is life, people and thing; close and far, happiness and pain. When I am sad, I write a lot more, in happiness almost the same. Depend on the chosen theme it could be easy or not. Inspiration is all around us and inside. My suggestion: keep your heart and ears open and you will see how words, thoughts and ideas come to you…

    Hi Josh!
Yes, I am! Actually, I am writing three: two science fiction stories and one graphic novel. Would you like to read a page?

The main obstacle I have found is always self confidence. One day you write something you fell is pure poetry, the next day it feels like prosaic caca.

A very good tool I have found to fight against this illness is Wattpad. Have you take a look at it?

You know how to bait the hook, don’t you? Anyone who IS writing a book is generally more than happy to share that information. 🙂
I’m in last edits of my book, hope to have it totally ready for CreateSpace by July1st. A friend from high school who has a journalism degree offered to content edit, then line edit it for me. What a gift.
It’s called Just One Foot: How Amputation Cured My Disability and it’s the story of how I begged docs to cut off my left foot, at age 36, because I was convinced I could get a better life with bionics.
Getting my marketing in order, as I wait for my friend to finish line edits. I have refered to your post about publishing with CreateSpace several times now. It’s been very helpful!

I am currently, and have written, a book. I have several manuscript length works. I also participate in NaNoWriMo every year as an exercise for my writing habits. I don’t usually write anything serious during that time.

I try to “touch the ball” every day. That could be writing, planning, thinking about, drafting, anything as long as it has to do with my current work in progress!
