How many cups in a gallon of water? The short answer is 16 cups. The type of liquid is not important, but water is what the patron asked about, so water is what we went with.
I’ve also gotten the question before about oz/cup, so let’s break it down a bit further.
Every cup has 8 oz.
8 x 16 = 128, so there are 128 oz in a gallon.
This question has been near and dear to my heart lately as I’ve been trying to drink a gallon of water a day. Ounces are so small that it’s been easier to think “I just want to get a few more ounces” than “I just need to drink a few more cups.”
