Greetings book club members.
I will be the first to admit that a book that is almost entirely photos is an odd selection for a book club book. Two things led to this selection.
1. I was in Denver in August at my parent’s house. As usual, I wound up going through boxes of old family photos. There were some real stinkers in there, but I laughed for a couple of hours as I looked at so many bad choices. Bad hair, bad clothes, bad smiles, bad scowls, bad family picture arrangement, and so on.
2. A friend pointed me to the Awkward Family Photos Website, which I immediately wasted a ton of time on. I don’t know that I have any pictures that are quite as bad as the worst of AFP, but I’m going to submit this entry for your disapproval:
I’m not sure what the worst part of this is. The smirk? The dead eyes? The chemically straightened hair? (I can still smell that stuff.) The belt loops with no belt in them? The fact that I weighed about 150 and didn’t have a thing to be smug about? The, oh-don’t-mind-me-I’ll-Just-be-over-here-leaning-against-this-tree-ness of it all?
So here is what I would like to hear/see from any of you brave folks.
Can you describe the worst photo of yourself or your family that you know of? If you happen to have it posted online on a service like Twitpic or Flickr and you’re in the mood to share, even better.
This was truly one of the funniest books I have ever looked through.
