Looks like I’m powerless against the tide of my own hype. Today I have no choice but to bow under the weight of the raving feedback and call it for what it is: largely because of this goofy little blog and the stories found on it, I have become a professional speaker.
It feels strange to look at those words, but they’re true. I have a fancy-shmancy agent representing me, and I can now place myself into that category of people who have (insert uppity sniff here) “Upcoming engagements.”
The nicest thing about it is that because I wasn’t chasing this, there’s no pressure. Based on results and feedback, it looks like I’m pretty good at it.
The reactions and testimonials have been incredibly moving and overwhelming. As long as people keep saying “That was useful to me,” I feel like I should do as many as possible.
I’m still a librarian. I still work 40+ hours a week and don’t think that will change. I like my job too much. But I love speaking even more, and can’t ever see myself referring to it as a “job”, which is probably a clue.
Hire Me page
My speaking page is up there in the menu bar under hire me. That’s where you can see where I’ve been, and my upcoming engagements. (sniff). It’s also where you can see how to get in touch with my agent.
If any of you WSL readers ever need a speaker for a group of any size, you get preference because you have supported my efforts over the last two years and I love you madly. And for you, I’ll do my best to be a cheap, easy date.
Thank you as always. I wish I could say I wouldn’t be here without you, but you know I’d be doing this anyway. But I wouldn’t have the chance to make a living off of it without you.
I am grateful.
