High volume, light resistance training has been testing best for me lately, and it has me feeling pretty good. My joints get a break from heavy lifting and it still makes me stronger.
If you have never had the chance to lift with a thick bar (that’s what I’m calling the axle here), I highly recommend it if you have any interest in making exercises more challenging, improving your grip strength, or developing larger forearms.
My 2″ barbell was made by Submit Strength Equipment. It weights 75 lbs and is an absolutely beast. And there are no revolving sleeves, which doesn’t sound that important until you try to lift it.
Enough said on that.
Tonight’s workout was a bunch of fast axle cleans and presses with 145. Cleaning a thick barbell is interesting. It has to be squeezed tighter and depending on where my grip is at, sometimes I have to use a hook grip.
Finished up with some stone carries and about 300 yards of fast farmer’s walks with 225/hand.
A great night of strength training.
